McCain changes position on offshore drilling and receives oil exec funds

McCain’s shift on off shore drilling should come as no surprise to voters. For McCain the math is simple: folks want lower gas prices and McCain wants the financial support of the oil industry. All he had to do was alter his position and use, as an excuse the implication that drilling would fix higher gas prices. His shift would then open the floodgates to the oil industry’s vast capital reserves. President Bush and presumably Vice President Cheney are speaking with their major donors, which include old friends from the industry, to drum up support for McCain. Additionally he must have made cretin assurances to them considering the amount of money he is starting to get from them. With each passing day McCain, looks less like a maverick and more like a politician created in the Bush-Chaney image.

Young people turning out to vote? No way!

The Virginia Pilot concedes more young people are registering to vote in the Commonwealth. But they say it could be an anomaly due to normal population growth. They also question weather higher registration means higher voter turnout. The Chair of the Republican Party of Virginia, Jeff Frederick suggests youth turnout will be predictably low for the fall elections.

That’s what he thinks.

Mr. Frederick hopes and wishes youth turnout will be low this November the thought of young Virginians coming to the polls in droves must keep him awake at night. He knows that this is the year of the young voter and young people are not just going to vote in large numbers this fall but overwhelmingly for Democratic candidates.

Excitement over Obama will be hard for McCain to overcome

Polls are confirming what many of us already know: It’s hard to get excited for a candidate who wants to continue failed policies of a ineffective administration. John McCain is running for a third Bush term and voters, even from his base are failing to show enthusiasm for his campaign. Meanwhile Barack Obama is energizing people of differing backgrounds all across America. In Virginia, the Obama campaign has opened 20 offices statewide and these offices will be filled with enthusiastic volunteers ready to affect change. Virginia has not seen this kind of commitment from a democratic presidential candidate in a generation and with this commitment to victory in November, we will elect Barack Obama president.
